ARMD Treatment

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) occurs due to deranged metabolism of retinal cells with ageing leading to deposition of fat in the retina’s outermost layer. Along with ageing, other associated risk factors are smoking, elevated cholesterol and blood pressure.

Types of ARMD

Dry ARMD

In the early stage, there are small deposits in retinal cells which may not hamper the vision initially. However, when the deposits increase in size and number, they may cloud or blur eyesight.

Wet ARMD

Severe deposition may breakdown outer retinal layer cells thus allowing blood vessels from the choroidal layer reach the inner layers of the retina. This is followed by destruction of retinal layers and fluid accumulation in retina, as a result of which symptoms like gradual worsening of vision occurs.

ARMD Treatment Centre at Drishtideep- Get the Right Treatment

Understanding the causes and symptoms of ARMD is important to get treatment. Retina surgeons at Drishtideep conduct an in-depth examination and investigations like macular OCT and angiography, to understand your symptoms, and accordingly provide the treatment.

ARMD Treatment Options at Drishtideep

Whether macular degeneration is in its early, dry form or in its more advanced, wet form, which can cause substantial vision loss, will determine the appropriate course of treatment. When you visit us for ARMD consultation, the treatment options can be the following-

Laser Treatment

Undergoing laser treatment may help to overcome the condition in the early stage. A particular wavelength is used throughout the procedure to cauterize aberrant blood arteries.

Photodynamic Treatment

Intravenously administered verteporfin , a light-activated molecule seals the aberrant arteries while protecting the retina.

Anti-VEGF Treatment

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) promotes the growth of new blood vessels, as well as blood vessel leakage and inflammation. Anti VEGF intravitreal injection hampers such aberrant growth thus halts further damage to retina.
